Culture and People

People in Zimbabwe have had to adapt to the recent climate changes.
The have recently started to plant fast maturing seeds to beat the drought.

They have also started to plant seeds that are more resilient to heat.

Plants of Zimbabwe

African Starfish Plant

Plants grown in Africa tend to adapt by requiring less water than they would have usually needed.
Their seeds have also adapted to the warm and dry climate by sprouting easier and being more resilient to the heat

Animal Adaptations

African Elephant
The African Elephant also known as loxodonta africana
wallows in mud to keep cool. This helps to protect its skin
from the sun and insects.

The ears also keep it cool. The skin behind the ears is very
thin and has many blood vessels, elephants often flap their
ears to aid this process.

The teeth of an elephant are covered with hard ridges of
enamel and are adaptations for grinding plant materials,
hence elephants are referred to as “lophodont”.
